THE OPINIONS OF GREEK CONSUMERS FOR THE BIOLOGICAL PRODUCTS
Abstract
In recent years the systematic use of pesticides and genetically modified seeds in agriculture has led to more and more consumers in search of healthier products that will cover their nutritional needs. The negative perception of conventional products, supported by studies that show the harmful effects on the human body by modern farming methods. As a result, the market of organic products is gaining ground among buyers, promising, it constitutes a healthier way of eating. The purpose of this research is to study the extent of which consumers are aware of the existence of organic products, the criteria which they use to purchase these products and what is the general opinion about the matter under consideration. The survey data were collected by distributing questionnaires in the region of Attica in individuals who were over 18 years. Their analysis showed that in a large extent the respondents are aware of the existence of organic products, and they buy organic products because they trust them for not using pesticides, in opposition with the conventional ones
